Week 1 - Blog Posting #1 - Web 2.0

I am truly overwhelmed and at the same time - very impressed by the advances addressed within the four videos in the FSO Dashboard. Quite literally, I was under the impression the WEB 2.0 was a revision of something already in existence - like a piece of software or program. After viewing the videos, it was explained that WEB 2.0 was neither but an observation of how a generation of new technologies and communication's tools have evolved to a level of self awareness within the existing internet websites.

'Self Awareness' - It sounds like the lines used in the Terminator movies however; are as applicable and so close to actuality that it indeed becomes both awed with greatness and feared with uncertainties.

I mention it (self awareness) because of the undertakings it had to experience in order to become accepted as a people tool (versus something so technically devised that it scares folks away from using it). It makes the lay person a professional web surfer or blogger. It has empowered the youth to question the law of the land, it has allowed the accused to challenge the courts or a parent to seek medical advise without having to spend money on a specialist and all this because of the power of information being made available through a massive amount of communication tools not available 5 years ago.

Side note: I have found a wonderful site that has compiled hundreds of popular links and categorized by fields and industries. It's a great source to use for research. It's called GO2WEB20. You'll have a blast with it!

I do fear it and with a certain amount of reason. It has evolved and as I write this blog, I'm also wondering what aspect of information of my life is being collected for what purpose and stored for future use? Do I really want to be connected with everybody at the same time? Oh well, I can always join "MySpace"!

To better understand WEB 2.0, I forced myself to find a site that would help with my anxieties about the web. A site called - The Future Buzz seemed to fit the bill. Hopefully, it may also inspire you to break through the iron curtain and bring to light the advantageous of this new and improved WEB!

  1. I am still recovering from the amount of information that Web 2.0 brings into view for us as educators could use in the classroom. I was thinking about "Terminator" and the control of the machines taking it to Web 3.0 concept when you mentioned the information on us that is available and for what purpose. I would like to become technology savvy to educate others and help them be prepared for tomorrow's life demand. Thank you for the two links they are helpful and come to expand the long list of resources at our disposal.
