Week 4 - Blog Posting #8 -Reflection on Blogging

Ignorance is bliss! And I’m the first one to admit it referring to myself. In the past, I’ve often entertained the notion of becoming a writer. Not having the formal skills and creativity, I tended to shy away from doing so.

I’ve had many reasons why I didn’t pursue this path. I’ve procrastinated here and there. Here are a few excuses: First, what would I write about? Second, would I feel comfortable in allowing others to read my works? And third, what method or media would I use that would allow the kind of feedback necessary to hone in my writing skills?

You'd think that the best excuse would be, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND AN OUTLET!

Check this out...
German inventor Johannes Gutenberg - 1440

Brown, T. (n.d.). History of the Printing Press - Invention of the Printing Press. Retrieved August 23, 2009, from http://www.ideafinder.com/history/inventions/printpress.htm

In 1440, German inventor Johannes Gutenberg invented a printing press process that, with refinements and increased mechanization, remained the principal means of printing until the late 20th century. The inventor's method of printing from movable type, including the use of metal molds and alloys, a special press, and oil-based inks, allowed for the first time the mass production of printed books.

Then came “BLOGGING!”

I tend to feel the way thousands of others now using a blog to communicate thought, events, comments and stories. I’m very excited and happy with this tool. I find blogging to be more of a social tool used to stimulate intellectual sharing of ideas and prefer this to “Twitting”. However, I have also fallen into the trap of linking this to my Twitter (and “FaceBook”, and “Delicious”, and “NetVibes” and…, well you get the idea) in order to get my blogs out there.

With the follower network that one establishes during this process, opportunities also widen. I mean, lets think about this; what possibilities are there? Well, maybe I’ll get the attention of a publisher who reads my blogs and decides to commission me to become the next novelist for a new kind of Harry Potter series!, or maybe not (bummer).

Oh well, At least there’s always someone out there that glances at a distance. It’s up to me to make it work.

ANY WRITING ADVISE?

Note: Responding to this blog proves my point!

  1. Jorge,
It's hard for me to ignore a challenge such as that- and I was going to comment anyways. Yes, I concur. My husband is forever comparing me with JK Rowling; so I'm trying to live life on the lean side and write/create more. I suppose blogging is a place to start.
Now go- write something for a would-be publisher to consider. But remember this; are you writing to be published by a Gutenberg or a dot-com? Do you want to be read or in print? Heavy, heavy writers' considerations, I know.
